Media Exam - Sources

Sources to SHARE! (and contribute to?) im numbering them to make my Q2 post easier. you also need to quote the whole URL in your exam if its a website for some stupid reason.

you need around6 METHODS and 12 SOURCES so pick and choose the ones youll remember.

METHOD: NEWSPAPERS - SECONDARY
1. The Guardian, saturday Febuary 17th 2007 John Patterson

+ reliable. its a trustworthy source of academic value.
+ its actually EXACTLY what we are researching

METHOD: BOOKS - SECONDARY
2. Television Culture, John Fiske, Routledge 1991 (thats the publisher)
+ useful for audience and genre research, reliable and trustworthy academic style
- not on sci-fi D: borrrring
- toooo much informaaationn D:

3. Television Drama; Audience, Ageny and Myth, John Tulloch (these John guys really like tv), Routledge 1990
+ more specific towards tv drama, including sci-fi!
+ info on audience and tv texts
- sooooo much info

4. Television Audiences and Culture Studies, David Morley, Routledge 1992
+ genre and audience!
- non specific
- too much info again

METHOD: INTERNETS - SECONDARY

+ good for review of first episode
+ good interview with tim kring (so, overall its useful and specific?)

+ very useful for popularity information in the UK
+ reliable source
- quite hard to use, couldnt specify program you had to specify date

+ very useful
+ shows position of heroes in top 20 and gives stats in millions etc...
+ reliable
- would have been hard to find heroes if it wasnt so popular

- vaaaague
- biased lol
+ says the network and production team tho...

+ useful for what else the company have done
+ specific

- full of crap
- biased/useless
- good for behind scenes technical info

12. Media Magazine, issue 22, december 07, Chris Bruce (AQA EXAMINER!!)
+ reliable
+ exactly our question, specific

+ had stuff on heroes...
- but it wasnt that useful

METHOD: MESSAGEBOARDS - PRIMARY IF YOU POSTED IT - SECONDARY IF YOU STOLE IT

METHOD: TEXTUAL ANAL (YEAH!) - PRIMARY

+ useful!

METHOD: INTERVIEWS - PRIMARY
16. Interview with 21 yr old female student who doesnt usually watch tv dramas
+ very useful

17. Interview with 45 and 46 yr old employed couple, (my parents lols) who watch every tv drama on tv
+ very useful

METHOD: FOCUS GROUP - PRIMARY
18. we so did one of those. vary our ages a bit XD

METHOD: InfoTrak - SECONDARY
